OBLIVIOUS COMPUTING
Co-Architect & Inventor
MobileCoin Fog (Fast Oblivious Gateway) is an innovative solution designed to improve privacy and scalability for MobileCoin users by addressing challenges inherent to privacy-focused cryptocurrencies. The key challenge involves identifying user transactions without compromising privacy. Traditional view-key scanning, used in Cryptonote-based systems, can be computationally expensive and difficult to scale. MobileCoin Fog resolves this by offering a more efficient, privacy-preserving system.
Key Features
Efficient Transaction Scanning: Fog uses SGX (Software Guard Extensions) and elliptic curve cryptography to enable quick and private user transaction identification, minimizing computational costs from O(n²) to O(n log n), ensuring scalability for millions of users.
Privacy-Preserving Design: Fog keeps user transaction data private. Node operators have zero knowledge about recipients or transaction amounts, preserving privacy even during transaction lookups.
Secure Key Management: The system ensures that even if the SGX is compromised, the attacker only gains ephemeral keys related to ongoing transactions, providing forward secrecy.
Durable and Scalable Architecture: In the event of machine failures, Fog ensures users can still recover their wallets, as transaction data is encrypted and safely stored outside of SGX enclaves. This guarantees that system crashes won’t lead to data loss.
Impact
MobileCoin Fog enables secure and scalable privacy coin transactions, ensuring that MobileCoin can be used by millions of users without sacrificing privacy or efficiency. The system is designed to offer a seamless user experience even after events like phone changes or app reinstallations, supporting full wallet recovery and smooth transaction management.
